My first painting today went really well. This is what I'm after with this series

of paintings, loose determined brush strokes and rich color. I did not have the sun for long

but was able to establish the light when it came.

A commission for a friend.

I was recently asked to take a commission for a friend to paint an image of him as a boy with his father . The photo I worked from was taken in Portugal in the early 1950's. I really liked the way the image progressed and my friend loved it when he saw it. I left the boys face purposely a shade of blue. To me I made the decision while working on the painting because it added a sense of warmth. The completed oil painting took me 20 hours.

This is a detail of my early sketch in ultramarine wash .

A few more drawings and paintings of Provincetown done a few years ago , I guess i'm just getting excited about working on the Cape more than ever this summer. I'm moving away from NY up to Dartmouth MA. and can't wait to start painting the place that i love most.

''Entering Provincetown''

''Entering Provincetown''oil on canvas private collection. Another painting i did on route 6A back in the late 90's. I always enjoy painting this spot before exploring other subjects it has always been a gateway to the inspiration that lies ahead.
