Downtown New Bedford
I was out in New Bedford yesterday working on a sketch of the Seamen's Bethal , a painting I am going to donate to them. I was married here in 2008 and I hold it dear to me. A nice newspaper photographer shot this photo of me working and it made it into the paper, very cool, any publicity an artist can get we take it .

A week on Cape Cod many roads and Kill Devil.
This week I could not get the road series out of my head. I have been obsessed with doing small paintings of roads on Cape Cod in the Truro area mostly. They are beautiful to me and a refreshing change from the type of work I have been doing. When I think of it I have been painting roads for years but have never thought about them as a series. These little paintings become abstract but still hold on to a strong representation of there place. They feel like Cape Cod to me, they have a silence to them that is very meditative and I have a strong sense of peace while painting them.
I showed what a few look like framed and the last thumbnail is the series as it stands now but there will be more.

Campground Rd. Eatham, Race point Provincetown-
This week on the Cape brought unexpected rains and brutal weather , I was lucky to paint at all but did 2 10x10's one in Race point Provincetown and the other in Eastham on Campground Rd.These roads have really been inspiring me and I can't wait each week to get out there and begin new ones. The roads are peaceful and contemplative, when I am there in the moment I feel them vibrate rich with color and movement. They are guiding me to where I want to be and I trust them.

Truro, Corn Hill, My love affair with roads.
This week I made it up to Corn Hill Truro. Edward Hopper put it on the map but it has always been a popular spot for artist's to paint. The cottages in the foreground draw your eye to the far off horizon. I do alot of driving looking for scenes and my eye is always attracted to the roads, the shadows and shapes how they wind or go on forever, there is much variety there and I have begun painting them. Small canvas's 6x6'' and I'm really liking where they are going.

Wellfleet, The art gallery town!
I have been enjoying painting in and around Wellfleet villiage . Many beautiful homes and examples of early north eastern architecture. Last week I did two images there and plan to go back this week.
This home in the center of town I feel was my best image last week. It used to be a bank and later was owned by an artist.
This final work is of a small cottage in the village of Wellfleet. It glows from the variations of blues and purples in the shadows surrounded by all the green, great spot to paint. I was in deep shade when I painted it and when I brought it into the sun it popped and all the color came out.

I painted this image leaving Provincetown last week after lunch. It has been done a million times before by local artist's but I love to simplify the forms of the small houses called the flower cottages. Each one is named after a flower.

Lower Cape Ice Provincetown MA. Oil 16x20
During this oppressive heat wave were having here in New England I thought a nice painting of this Ice house would cool things down a bit. While working on the image I can't tell you how many people asked me why I was painting this subject and all I could say was that it was something I saw 3 weeks ago and could not stop thinking about it. I paint things because they move me not much more to it.

'' Wyhmere Harbor'' Oil on canvas 20x20
This piece I did on Wednesday. I love the abstract quality of it and while painting it just let everything go. There is no way in 4 hours you can catch all the detail in this harbor so I let my eye soak it all up and looked at it in one broad stroke. This image requires viewer participation I'm allowing you to piece the puzzle together yourself

2 loose watercolour's at Round Hill Beach.
I took this beautiful day off and went to Round Hill beach with Lisa & Amelia. I have been studying the technique of mudheads and was playing around with it today asking my wife to pose in full sunlight baklit. Looking forward to doing more of these in Oil.
the 2nd piece was a couple of sunbathers in front of me enjoying the setting sun.

Fog bank in Chatham, A farmhouse in Brewster MA., Provincetown hilltop street..
A challenging week out on the Cape brought some good work. I hooked up with a friend to paint out on the Cape in Chatham and the morning started out well but the fog moved in and killed it for us. As a painter who works outdoors weather is always a factor but that's what makes working outside so rewarding.
